Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Career Buddi ("Career Buddi," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the application at careerbuddi.app (the "Service").
Career Buddi is operated by Joe Poirier, an individual. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at joe@joetheaiguy.com.
Career Buddi is currently offered as a closed, invite-only beta.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Joe Poirier is the operator of the Service and is responsible for personal information processed through it. You can reach us at joe@joetheaiguy.com for any privacy-related request.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
Account information. When you join the waitlist and create an account, we collect your email address and any name or profile information you provide. Account creation and sign-in are handled through our authentication provider, Clerk (see Section 5).
Content you provide. Career Buddi is a tool for organizing your career history and generating job-application materials. The content you create or upload includes:
- "Atoms" — verified facts about your work history, skills, accomplishments, certifications, and education that you enter or that are extracted from text you provide.
- Contact records — information you choose to save about people in your professional network, which may include their names, email addresses, and notes you write about them.
- Job descriptions, generated resumes, cover letters, and other application "packages" you create.
- Logs and notes you add to track your job search.
Your AI provider API key. Career Buddi uses a "bring-your-own-key" model. To generate materials, you provide your own Anthropic API key. We store this key encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM encryption and use it only to make requests to Anthropic on your behalf.
Technical information. We may collect limited technical data necessary to operate and secure the Service, such as basic request logs.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and operate the Service;
- Generate the resumes, cover letters, and other materials you request, using the content you provide;
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure;
- Communicate with you about the Service, including beta access and important notices;
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, abuse, and security risks.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not share it for advertising.
4. AI processing and your content
When you request generated materials, the relevant content you provide — such as your atoms and the job description you submit — is sent to Anthropic's API to produce the output. This processing happens using the API key you supply, and Anthropic's handling of that data is governed by Anthropic's own terms and privacy practices. We encourage you to review Anthropic's policies. Career Buddi sends only the content needed to fulfill your request.
When the materials you generate reference a contact you have saved (for example, to surface people in your network at a target company), only that contact's name and company are included in what is sent to Anthropic. A contact's email address, phone number, and any notes you have written about them are never sent to Anthropic.
5. How we share information (service providers)
We share information only with the third-party service providers needed to run the Service. These are:
- Clerk — authentication and account management.
- Supabase — database hosting for your account and content.
- Vercel — application hosting and delivery.
- Anthropic — AI processing of the content you submit for generation, using your API key (see Section 4).
Each of these providers processes information only as needed to provide their service to us. We do not share your personal information with any other parties except where required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or in connection with a future business transfer (in which case we will update this policy).
Career Buddi does not connect to Gmail, Zoom, calendar, or other outside accounts; no such integrations are active. Apart from the limited contact information described in Sections 4 and 6 — a contact's name and company, sent to Anthropic during generation using your API key — we do not send your contact data to any third party.
6. Information about other people
Career Buddi lets you store contact records about people in your professional network. If you enter information about other individuals, you are responsible for ensuring you have any necessary rights or permissions to do so, and for using that information lawfully. If someone believes their information has been stored in Career Buddi and would like it addressed, they can contact us at joe@joetheaiguy.com.
A contact's details stay within your own account. When you generate application materials, only a contact's name and company may be sent to Anthropic to surface relevant connections. A contact's email address, phone number, and any notes you write are never sent to Anthropic or any other third party.
7. Cookies
Career Buddi uses only strictly necessary cookies, which are set by Clerk to keep you signed in and maintain your session. We do not currently use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. Because we use only essential cookies, no cookie-consent banner is presented. If we add analytics or other non-essential cookies in the future, we will update this policy and provide any consent mechanism required by law.
8. Data retention
We retain your account and content for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated content at any time by contacting joe@joetheaiguy.com. We will delete your data within a reasonable period following your request, except where we are required to retain certain information by law.
9. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Your Anthropic API key is encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and each user's data is isolated so that other users cannot access it. As the operator and administrator of the Service, Joe Poirier can access the underlying database in order to run, support, secure, and maintain the Service. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of it, and the right to ask us to restrict or stop certain processing.
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you rights to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
To exercise any of these rights, email joe@joetheaiguy.com. We will respond as required by applicable law.
11. Children
Career Buddi is not directed to children and is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact joe@joetheaiguy.com and we will delete it.
12. International users
Career Buddi is operated from the United States, and your information is processed in the United States and in the regions used by our service providers. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Career Buddi evolves — for example, when we add new features or service providers that change how data is handled. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
